Nothing like some good ole law-making on Turkey Day! [26 Nov 2009|09:33pm]

Want a chance to be more directly involved in the law-making process? Here's your chance. H.R. 1742 is a VERY short bill (so you can read it in one sitting) and is written pretty plainly. Feel free to take a look at it and give me your feedback. Agree with it? Disagree with it? Think there should be an amendment? I'm all ears for whatever you have to say.

Edit: THOMAS, as always, doesn't like to hold links. If the link isn't working for you, go here and type "H.R. 1742" into the search button (it should be set to Bill Number)

Pandagiving hosted by Jason Bellamy and Bit Rawn - Open to Everyone! [26 Nov 2009|04:36pm]

moviereel

[bitrawn]
Who: Whoever would like to come, really! Plus some fan-types.
What: Thanksgiving catered by Panda Express, hosted by [info]jasonbellamy and [info]bitrawn
When: Thursday, November 26th, 2009 at around 7pm
Where: Pershing Square in Los Angeles, CA
Rating: Shouldn't be too racy! It's Thanksgiving in public!

A few facts about the event:
- Everyone is invited. Jason posted an event notice on Facebook and talked about it on his blog, so there will be people there.
- Pershing Square has an outdoor ice skating rink that is open on holidays.
- There is a large box set up for any nonperishable food items your kid might like to donate. All food will go to the Los Angeles Food Bank after the event!

okay, so maybe it's a little bit early to start talking New Years, but, this idea just came to me so bear with my obsessive need to plan, alright?!

Anyway, I'm sure everyone knows that MTV does a big new year's show in time square with hosts and DJ's and musicial performances, and I got to thinking about it and was like 'hey, that would be a really cool thing for the Gossip Girl stars to host since they're sort of a pop culture symbol of NYC partying right now'.

So, my first question goes out to [info]zignani, [info]braidan, [info]julietevans, [info]shain, [info]znder (& hopefully [info]ivin if they apply!). Is this something you guys would be interested in having your kids host?

From there we'd need DJ's, I've already talked to [info]zera and she is down, I think there's a couple DJ's out there, so maybe one more to trade off time spinning with her would be cool!

Lastly, musical performers! I know they only televise like 3, but, there can certainly be more to entertain the crowd! Also feel free to comment if you know your character would just want to attend, maybe be interviewed by the hosts!

new plan for secrets this round! First off, we're going to start posting them every Friday as opposed to when we have some certain number (don't worry, I'll still be posting harassing reminders to get you guys to drop them off).

Our first Friday will be this one, and in honor of Thanksgiving I thought we'd try a theme! Post about what or who you're thankful for, or just say something nice about someone! Only nice secrets will be posted this round, I think we could all stand a little love :)

gallaway
NAME: Holden Andrew Gallaway
AGE & BIRTHDATE: July 15, 1986 (23)
HOMETOWN: Wichita, Kansas
GRADE: Senior, Ohio State
MAJOR: Communications
FRATERNITY: Alpha Tau Omega, Rush Chair
SEVEN FACTS: ● Holden Gallaway grew up as the middle child in a family of four girls. His oldest sister graduated as her class’s salutatorian and his younger sisters (the twins) had their own talents in athletics and the arts. Whereas Holden, the sole by on the family, got lost in the shuffle which is saying a lot since he’s remarkably taller than both his parents and it was often joked about that Holden wasn’t the product of his father but he was really the mailman’s son. As a young child, Holden questioned the truth in this as the mailman never seemed too special and he was five inches taller than Holden’s father.

● School was never Holden’s forte. He had a habit of sleeping through lectures, forgetting assignments, and he rarely (if ever) opened his textbooks. And athletically, his long limbs proved to be more of a hindrance than a blessing. In eighth grade, when he was at least a foot taller than his friends, he was put on the basketball team because it was assumed that he would be a good player because of his height advantage. Unfortunately, it didn’t take long to see that he was the weakest player on the team despite his every effort to complete a foul shot or make a basket.

● Girls were, however, his natural talent of Holden’s. He couldn’t understand his own appeal and, as many of his girlfriends told him, it was endearing. His parents had taught him manners and he was the boy in school who would stand at a door until everyone had passed by, he never hesitated to say please or thank you, and he was a hit with parents because he was from a nice family who helped out with community projects. It didn’t hurt that Holden has always embraced his feminine side, either.

● Sappy movies, puppies, children, and even Kay’s commercials tug at his heartstrings. He’s a romantic to the core, something he credits to being brought up around an overwhelming amount of women. He also credits his intense devotion to good hygiene to his sisters and their many makeover projects. This, of course, is something he doesn’t talk about often. It’s hard to stay masculine when stories of playing dress-up come up in conversation.

● Going to college was always something that scared Holden. At first, he didn’t know if he would be accepted anywhere because he had been kept back in his eighth grade year for poor academic performance but, much to his luck, no college cares much for middle school grades. He didn’t have academic or athletic scholarships that helped him decide like some of his friends, nor did he feel a sense of commitment to go to his parent’s alma mater. How did he decide? He put the name of all of the schools he was accepted to into a hat and picked. The lucky school was Ohio State.

● In his freshman seminar class, Holden met the people who would become the most important people in his life. Despite their differences, he would be incomplete without his best friends. Although they’ve all taken different directions for their future (Holden’s approach is to avoid thinking about it as long as possible), they’re all as close as they were four years ago. Kemer and Holden pledged to the same frat together which only made their bond stronger.

● He’s dense, unmotivated, and would prefer sitting and playing video games to studying or going for a run, but Holden is a good guy. He puts the needs of his friends, family, and Alpha brothers before his own and volunteer work is something he doesn’t take lightly. As a member of a fraternity, he knows it’s not all about partying and having a good time (though he wishes it was) and he has led several community service projects. Other than spending time with the people he cares about most, this is what he’s most passionate about in life.
